Elm Road Jumping Eagles

The “Jumping Eagles” is a jump rope club open to 3rd-5th grade students at Elm Road. Students who wish to participate must apply and try out / audition in order to be accepted. Tryouts are held in early Fall.

The Jumping Eagles typically perform at Penn High School, Bethel College and other schools and events within the community.
The benfits of jumping rope include improved cardiovascular health, increased coordination, reduced injury risk, increased agility and so much more.

I was teaching physical education at elmro elementary school and we did a thing called jump rope for heart because we raised so much money we were entitled to having a jump rope team they were called the thump jumpers come in so I talked to their uh coach and I said I have no jump roping uh skill at all he goes you don't need to do that just give kids an opportunity to jump rope when I left uh Elm Road that's when uh uh Mrs perzy took over we start out with grades three through five if they want to be a

member they have to come after school and try out for the team and so we assess their skills and their teamwork so along with the partnership that we have with American Heart Association our partnership has also developed with bethl University and they know of our jump rope team and they always ask for us to come perform at their halftimes because the crowd gets so involved and enjoys our performances my favorite thing about being on the jump rope team is probably doing my Pogo sck so performing is

nerve-wracking and cuz like there's millions of people watching you not Millions but a ton I love it when you do your uh when I do my splits and everyone's just so amazed cuz they don't don't think boys can do splits it helps with your heart and if you have a healthy heart uh you have a a little bit longer chance of living jumping rope is not only really good for your physical body it also helps them socially they're working together and designing routines and coming up with you know who gets to

do what Mrs poil is a uh fifth grade teacher here and she used to be a member of my jump rope team when I was a student here at elmro I was a member of the Jumping Eagles and Miss pzy kind of inspired me to come back and now I'm a fourth grade teacher here and it's super awesome she and I come up with the choreography the kids come up with a lot too they're like hey watch I can do this you know and they'll have a new trick to put in and we we find a way to make it work I just love that it's something
